Caitlyn Jenner gave a beautiful speech at the EPSY awards last night upon receiving the Arthur Ashe Courage Award.
Along with courage, the speech that was received with a standing ovation evoked yet another word, inspirational.
Caitlyn Jenner made her first big public appearance last night and looked amazing in a simple floor length white gown. Poised, graceful, and incredibly transparent, Caitlyn’s speech was delivered flawlessly and spoke some serious truths that everyone needed to hear.
Caitlyn said that although her journey has been inspiring, it has also been frightening due to the apparent opposition in the world against the trans community. She mentioned two gut wrenching stories about two young trans individuals – one who was stabbed to death and the other who committed suicide due to bullying.
In the wake of stories like these, Caitlyn stressed that with attention comes responsibility saying QUOTE - “I’m clear with my responsibility: to tell my story the right way, to keep learning, to do whatever I can to reshape the landscape of how trans issues are viewed. And to promote a very simple idea: Accepting people for who they are and accepting people’s differences. Trans people deserve something vital. They deserve your respect. And from that respect comes a more compassionate community and empathetic society.”
Caitlyn then took time to thank and acknowledge other trans individuals in the public eye who have come before her including Chaz Bono and Laverne Cox and made a humbling statement saying QUOTE – “It’s not just about me. It’s about all of us accepting one and other. We’re all different. That’s not a bad thing, That’s a good thing.”
She also thanked Diane Sawyer for the way she told her story and then gave everyone the sniffles when she thanked her family and mom.
It was so nice to see all of Caitlyn’s kids there to support her and Kim and Khloe were sure to share this adorable family photo on Instagram of Caitlyn’s own personal brady bunch aka the “clique.”
Caitlyn ended her speech with words that we can all take to heart saying QUOTE – “And while it may not be easy to get past the things you may not understand, I want to prove that it is absolutely possible if we only do it together.”
