Camila Cabello gets candid about her Fifth Harmony departure and reveals just how liberating it was to record an album on her own.
HOST ON CAMERA: What can she say? Camila just loves control.
To no one’s surprise, Camila has been riding the wave of success ever since she left Fifth Harmony to pursue her own solo career. In People magazine’s latest issue, Camila opened up to the outlet about her musical process for her solo album and even though she parted ways with Fifth Harmony back in 2016, that incident is still a hot topic of discussion.
When asked if whether or not Camila has any regrets over the way she and Fifth Harmony ended things, she simply responded with, “I don’t know, I don’t really think about that. That’s a long time ago.” Fair enough. I think it’s time to leave any Camila and Fifth Harmony questions in the past where they belong, people!
Moving on to what everyone is super interested in: her album recording process. Camila talked about why she decided to leave some songs like ‘Crying in the Club’ off her debut album and said QUOTE, “I think that everything’s just about timing, and ‘Crying in the Club’ – it was super early. It came along really, really early, and I had not been in the studio for a long time. I think when I had enough of those, it kind of felt like pieces in a puzzle, and some of the pieces were just not in the same puzzle. I think it was just about finding exactly what my sound was for this first album.”
And according to Camila, finding her sound wasn’t too hard after ‘Havana’ came around. She admitted that, “’Havana’ was the breakthrough moment – and everything else just sort of happened.”
Camila also went on to talk about how it felt recording an album on her own for the first time as opposed to recording it with four other girls. She said QUOTE, “Um, yeah, it was completely different. I’d spent almost a year making this album, and I really didn’t stop until I felt like I was ready to close this chapter. I was like, ‘If I’m gonna do this my way, I’m gonna do it my way.’”
We’re SO glad she decided take this album into her own hands instead of relying on others because if Camila had put other people in charge, well, we just don’t think her debut album would’ve been as good.
