Camila Cabello got candid about her time in Fifth Harmony and needless to say, the tea she spilled was pretty interesting.
From revealing that she was initially cut from X-Factor auditions to dishing the dirt on Fifth Harmony’s sexualized image, there wasn’t really much that was left unsaid when Lena Dunham chatted with Camila on her Women of the Hour podcast. During their phone call, Camila revealed that her audition process for X-Factor was pretty rough.
The singer went on to explain that her persistence basically got her through the process, only to be cut again – but as Harmonizers all know, that led to her being placed into the girl group that launched the start of her musical career.
And while Camila expressed how much she appreciated her time with the girl group, there were some things that she won’t miss, like having to deal with people trying to sexualize herself and the rest of the girls. The former 5H member revealed that there have been many times where she had to put her foot down because she was so uncomfortable being portrayed in that sense.
Camila said QUOTE, “Especially with being a girl group, there’s been a lot of times where people have tried to sexualize us to just get more attention. Unfortunately, sex sells. There’s definitely been times where there’s stuff that I have not been comfortable and I’ve had to put my foot down…I feel lik eit’s been tricky because we’ve had to grow into ourselves while being in front of the world and while making songs that did have a lot sexual undertones. There’s nothing wrong with showing sexuality. If you have that inside, it’s just an expression of who you are. If you want to share that with people, that’s amazing.”
On that note, the 19-year-old singer also gave her fans advice on the matter, saying QUOTE, “If you’re not ready for it, put your foot down.” There’s definitely nothing wrong with saying no when you’re uncomfortable.
Aside from Camila’s incredible and eye-opening interview, the singer has been teasing her fans via Twitter with what could possibly be lyrics for a song from her upcoming solo project. The singer shared a screenshot that read QUOTE, “Just as I was about to shut the door, I had to look again/something was different about the girl staring back at me in the mirror/oh yes/I realized/ the light had crept its way back into her eyes/ two words slipped from her mouth/”welcome home.”” And accompanied that image with a bunch of pencil emojis.
And to add MORE musical speculation into the mix, the singer was spotted at a photoshoot not too long ago where she posed with a guitar while her luscious locks blew around in the fake wind.
I have a feeling she’s going to make a solo musical announcement very soooonnn…
