Orlando was struck by tragedy over the weekend with the deadliest shooting in U.S history when a gunman opened fire at a gay nightclub killing 50 innocent civilians. Celebrities flocked to social media to offer their condolences, thoughts, and concerns.
Over the weekend, many celebrated love with Pride festivals all over the country, but all were overwhelmed with grief when Orlando was struck by tragedy.
The shooting took place at Pulse nightclub, a large gay club in Orlando, Florida. Around closing time, a gunman opened fire killing 50 people while also injuring over 50. After holding several club goers hostage in a bathroom and admitting to having explosives, the shooter was killed by police. Upon hearing news of the tragic event, celebs took to social media to voice their support for the victims.
Ariana Grande wrote QUOTE – “How how how how can one have so much hate ????? My heart...... is so broken. Praying for the families of the Orlando victims. I am so sorry.” Kim Kardashian tweeted – “I'm truly at a loss for words. To everyone in Orlando affected by this massacre, my thoughts, love, & prayers are with u.” Lady Gaga said – “It's a traumatizing & emotional time for a many people. I dream of the world reflecting on what we can do to change this violence.” Beyonce wrote - “Condolences and prayers to Orlando.” Andy Cohen called for an end to the hate saying QUOTE – “If we can't get rid of guns can we please end homophobia?” Media personality, Ross Matthews wrote –“ I am sickened to awake to the horrific news out of Orlando. Smiling, happy, dancing people gunned down for no reason. Hug your friends.” Seth MacFarlane took a stand saying QUOTE – “These shootings are a regular occurrence. You don't get to be "shocked" anymore unless you take action to stop them. Ban automatic weapons.” Clay Aiken commented on how the media reported the event writing QUOTE – “Ok @cnn. This MIGHT have been Islamic terrorism. But it DEFINITELY was a targeted attack on gays! And you're totally downplaying that!” While Amy Schumer wrote – “Sickening news. All my love to Orlando.”
The conversation and support has been ongoing and several more celebs have used social media to voice their concerns. The producer’s of last night’s Tony Awards also dedicated the ceremony to the attacked victims’ families and friends.
