They say if you love something let it go. But in the magical world of Disney where really anything is possible, you never have to fully let go of the things that you hold close to your heart - even if it looks like you have no other choice.
What’s up guys it’s Emile Ennis Jr for Clevver News and although the cast and the fans of the Descendants movies were told that there would only be 3 films in the series, we’re now hearing some news from one of the stars that things might not be as they seem.
In the words of Katy Perry, just because it’s over doesn’t mean it’s really over.
No, we’re not officially getting a ‘Descendants 4’, but Dove Cameron, one of the stars of Descendants, says that Disney would be smart to continue the series.
Dove plays Mal, the daughter of Maleficent, in all three movies.
And in a recent interview, she hinted that we’ll be seeing more of Mal in the future.
She said “I may or may not have heard something about something that I might be doing involving the franchise. I would never say that it's over, but I also would never confirm anything at this time. I would be open to doing more."
Which is a very vague way of saying that there’s definitely a spinoff or a ‘D4’ coming our way.
She continued saying, “I know that Disney has been very specific about saying that this world doesn’t really ever end, it goes on forever and the possibilities are endless.”
In the world of Disney, we definitely know that to be true. Something else we know to be true about Disney? They love making money.
Last year in 2018, The Walt Disney Company generated a total revenue of 59.43 billion dollars.
A very very tiny portion of that came from the Descendants franchise. But a tiny portion of almost 60 billion is still a hell of a lot of money.
And Dove, ever the businesswoman, said “To be completely honest, as an actor who is not beholden to Disney, I would say that I think it would be smart for them to capitalize on the brand that they created. I think it would be smart to do maybe a spin-off with maybe the younger characters.”
To say Dove is not beholden to Disney is an understatement. She’s had a vast career at the young age of 23, that has ranged from voicing the “Angry Birds” movie to “Shameless” to starring in an opera alongside Renee Fleming.
And rumors of another movie aren’t the only rumors that Dove is involved in lately. Recently, people have thought that she was going to appear in this newest season of Riverdale.
And for fans looking forward to the rest of the season, don’t strain your neck looking too hard for Dove Cameron, because, unfortunately, it’s not happening.
The rumors started when a fan made a fake concept trailer for this season of riverdale.
Dove addressed the rumors, saying “Somebody made a fake Riverdale trailer and used an old music video of mine and I finally watched it because I didn’t understand why everyone was asking me when I was going to appear in Riverdale”
The parts of the trailer with Dove were actually pulled from one of her old music videos “Glowing in the Dark” from her old band “The Girl and The Dreamcatcher”.
She was a part of the band briefly from 2015 to 2016 with her ex fiance Ryan McCartan.
But don’t think she’s not on Riverdale for a lack of trying. She’s announced before that she would love to join the cast.
“I love Riverdale. I know the cast. I’d definitely be open to it,” she told Shine Media in 2017.
And don’t forget that there were also rumors that she was being cast to play Sabrina in Netflix’s “The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina”.
In 2017, long before the show started, Dove posted an ode to Sabrina on her Instagram.
In a now deleted post, she paid homage to a character that she grew up with.
She said “I love the character Sabrina, obviously. I was a huge fan of the original Archie Comics, that was like all I read when I was little.”
Of course, that role ended up going to Kiernan Shipka, who has done an amazing job playing Sabrina so far in the first two seasons.
And people are still convinced that there will be a Riverdale/Sabrina crossover sometime in the future.
Because, uh, the towns are literally right next door to each other.
But until that happens, or until Dove Cameron finally makes an appearance in either show, we’ll just have to be happy with what we have.
You get what you get and you don’t get upset!
