Award season is upon us, which means the iHeart radio awards are honoring--and snubbing--all of our favorite artists with their list of nominees.
Drake, Justin Timberlake, Sia, The Chainsmokers and Twenty One Pilots are all up for the big win of the night for Song of the Year.
Meanwhile, Ariana Grande, Selena Gomez, Adele, Rihanna, and Sia are set to battle it out for Female Artist of the Year, while Shawn Mendes, Justin Bieber, Drake, Luke Bryan, and The Weeknd Dominate the Male Artist of the Year category.
Fans will also be able to vote on the “Fan Army” award, which went to Justin last year thanks to his ever-loyal and zealous Beliebers. Thirteen different artists are up for this category this year, so be sure to vote for YOUR favorite artist so you can have some extra bragging rights after you help them win.
In the Best Dance Song of the Year category, The Chainsmokers have two chances to win thanks to their hits “Closer” and “Don’t Let Me Down’, but they’re also up against heavy hitters like Major Lazer featuring the Biebs for “Cold Water”, as well as DJ Snake for “Let Me Love You”, also featuring the Biebs. Hopefully the Chainsmokers and Justin can finally put this awards show rivalry to rest and collaborate on something this year, because I don’t know if we can handle them going head to head for any more awards at this point.
Moving on to the R&B Artist of the Year category, there’s some steep competition between Beyonce, Rihanna, and The Weeknd--I mean seriously, how can you possibly choose one?! But The Weeknd did recently dropped his latest album, Starboy, which already has a number of chart-topping hits, so maybe that’ll be enough to push him ahead of the game.
As for snubs, many of the categories are seriously lacking some 5H love--including for Song of the Year and Best Group of the Year. Sure, Camilla just left and we have no idea what the future has in store for the group, but the girls should still get major recognition for their 2016 hits “Work From Home” and “That’s My Girl”, right?! And we’re just gonna guess that 24 Karat Magic and Starboy were released too late in the year to qualify for “Song of the Year”, because otherwise that is just plain wrong. We’ll just have to wait and see how everything plays out when the iHeart Radio awards commence on March 5th.
