Ellie Goulding is coming clean about those Ed Sheeran dating allegations and we’re bout to “Burn” this rumor downnn once and for all right here on Clevver.
So last year I’m sure you all remember Ed not-so-secretly implied that his song “Don’t” was about a messy love triangle between him, Ellie and his good friend Niall Horan, who apparently stole Ellie away from him. And back in 2013, if you recall, Ed actually revealed that he had a brief romance with Ellie, but NOW the story has changed and he revealed to Entertainment Weekly last month that the entire thing had been blown out of proportion and that he never admitted to saying those things.
So we were left with a really confusing web of tangled lies and accusations up until NOW. Leave it to Ellie to spill the truth about what really happened (or so she says). In an interview with Elle UK, she said QUOTE, “I did go on a few dates with Niall but I was never in a relationship with Ed. I have absolutely no idea where that came from and why it was turned into such a big thing.”
NOW we’re getting’ somewhere! So let’s think about this. Maybe Ed was crushing on Ellie so hard and she totally friend-zoned him, and began dating Niall, not knowing that Ed really liked her and what he thought was a blooming romance was just Ellie innocently being super sweet and friendly to him, which caused him to write a brutal song about this unfortunate love triangle situation AND BOOM. Mystery solved.
But Ellie obviously wasn’t too happy when she heard the rumors, and what do you do when you need to vent? You go to your besties, DUHH. She revealed that she talked about the issue with her pal Taylor Swift, saying, “I find it so frustrating that female musicians are constantly defined by the men they have or haven't dated. It's something I've talked about with Taylor a lot. She definitely feels that. It's like, you can be a great artist, you can write great songs, but the thing that everyone is going to talk about is some relationship they think you have had or not had."
But luckily the air is cleared because both Ed and Ellie are happily dating and everything is peaceful once again. Ellie also talked about her relationship with McFly’s Dougie Pointer, who she thinks “could be the one” and also said that QUOTE, “When I was a teenager, I fancied him but I thought he was so out of my league. Calvin Harris has already offered to play at our wedding. Not that we've organized one. But the offer has been made."
