Emma Watson shuts down criticism of her Beyonce comments from 3 years ago!
Emma just got stung by the Beyhive.
Last week Emma Watson debuted her new Vanity Fair cover and it included a very controversial topless photo. The high fashion shot sees Emma in a semi-sheer white top, which many people think is hypocritical to her feminist values. In an interview with Reuters The Beauty and the Beast star defended herself saying QUOTE, "...feminism is about giving women choice ... It’s about freedom… I really don’t know what my tits have to do with it."
But the Beyhive never forgets! Beyonce fans decided to make it about Beyonce. Fans are NOW calling Emma out for her comments she made about Queen Bey 3 years ago! In a 2014 interview with Wonderland magazine Emma discussed her reaction to Beyonce’s self-titled album and her conflicting thoughts it provoked about feminism. “On the one hand she is putting herself in a category of a feminist...but then the camera, it felt very male, such a male voyeuristic experience of her.” Beyonce fans interpreted that as Emma saying Beyonce’s sexuality disqualified her from being a feminist. And now with Emma’s topless Vanity Fair photo she seems to be doing the very same thing.
Yesterday Emma responded to the Beyhive on Twitter shutting down all the criticism writing, “This is the part of my 2014 interview with Tavi where we talked about Beyonce. My words are in bold.” Emma included a photo excerpt of her Wonderland interview where she highlighted the parts in which she discussed Beyonce. Upon further investigation it appears Emma actually admires Beyonce’s confidence and Beyonce even inspired a new meaning of feminism for her.
So we gotta know where YOU guys stand on all of this: do you think Emma WAS being hypocritical after slamming Beyonce’s version of feminism or do you think it was a huge misunderstanding?
