As we continue to show our support for Demi Lovato during this difficult time, if you need to be brought up to speed, we’re breaking down everything there is to know thus far about her hospitalization and next steps.
It may look a little rocky now but Demi is going to come out of this stronger and better than ever.
On Tuesday around 11:30am, Demi was transported from her Hollywood Hills home to Cedars Sinai Medical Center due to a medical emergency. TMZ reported that Demi was unconscious when the paramedics arrived due to an alleged drug overdose.
Sources told NBC News that the first responders who were called to Demi’s home used naloxone which is an opioid-overdose antidote to reverse the effects of the alleged overdose. TMZ originally reported that Demi overdosed on heroin, but they have sense retracted that statement, saying that it was another drug. According to The Blast, the LAPD officers collected an item of evidence related to illegal drugs that are not typically associated with heroin.
Thankfully it has been reported that Demi is now stable. E! News revealed that her mother and older sister are currently right by her side in the hospital. Demi’s publicist issued a statement last night saying QUOTE - "Demi is awake and with her family who want to express thanks to everyone for the love, prayers and support. Some of the information being reported is incorrect and they respectfully ask for privacy and not speculation as her health and recovery is the most important thing right now." It has yet to be confirmed how long she will remain in the hospital.
Insiders told TMZ that Demi was partying with friends the night before the overdose and seemed to be in good spirits. A source told Us Weekly QUOTE - "One of her friends had Narcan on hand in case something like this happened. Her friends knew this was coming because she's been using so much again. … Luckily, the Narcan worked and she will recover." A source revealed to People magazine QUOTE - "Things have been a total mess for months. She and her team severed ties, and they played a large part in getting her sober years ago. She hasn't been in a good place.”
Cosmo has reported that since Demi was hospitalized, the hospital has been on a total lockdown. A source told Us Weekly QUOTE - “The hospital has placed two security guards outside of her room and has been instructed to not let anyone that Demi’s mom hasn’t approved to visit her. The entire floor is basically on lockdown with the rooms next to hers remaining vacant to give her the utmost privacy.”
Sources have also revealed to Radar Online that following her hospitalization, Demi is headed straight to rehab. Demi’s family is not letting her out of their sight understandably and according to sources Demi is being cooperative with everyone around her right now.
It has also been reported that Demi’s tour has been placed on an indefinite hiatus.
