The 2018 Met Gala is right around the corner, so here’s everything we know about Fashion’s Biggest Night ever!
Okay so if you didn’t know, the Met Gala is officially fashion biggest night, but it also happens to be the intersection of some of the biggest moments in pop-culture. I mean this is the infamous party that provoked the Beyonce, Jay-Z, & Solange elevator fight, and it’s also the place where Taylor Swift and Tom Hiddleston met and hit it off. I mean Donald Trump even proposed to Melania at the Met Gala.
And although some people think it’s just a big party, the Met Gala is actually a fundraiser for The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute that has a different exhibit with a different theme every year, hence why The Met Gala always has a theme.
Sometimes the theme will honor a designer and other times it will honor a broader directive like this years’ theme is Heavenly Bodies: Fashion & The Catholic Imagination exploring the intersections of fashion with the practices and traditions of Catholicism. The exhibit will feature accessories actually from the Vatican which is pretty cool and designs by John Galliano and Coco Chanel.
One of the most controversial things surrounding the met gala is seeing which celebs and A-listers actually dress to theme and which ones attend the gala kind of wearing and doing their own thing. Either way the red carpet or I should stay – stairs into the Met is LIT and the outfits the guests wear are out of this world.
Every year Anna Wintour – editor in chief of Vogue – is the host and she selects celebrity co-hosts. This year her co-hosts are Amal Clooney, Rihanna, & Donatella Versace. To be a fly on the wall at that table…
As I’m sure you’ve probably guessed, The Met Gala is invite only and Anna Wintour actually has say over everyone who gets an invite. This party is one of the most if not the most exclusive party of the year. The attendees range from actors to musicians, to fashion designers to politicians. Last year only 600 people were invited and this year the tickets are rumored to be around $30,000 each. Yes you heard that right. So basically none of us could even go if we were invited anyway.
The exhibit is normally open for a few months so after today anyone can go see the exhibit at the metropolitan museum before it’s taken down in preparation for next year’s theme.
So far we’ve found out that allegedly neither Beyonce nor Kanye West will be attending this year. This year a 19 year old designer will make her debut at gala as well her name is Katya Eki-mian which is pretty awesome if you ask us.
The Met Gala always takes place on the first Monday in May in New York and the day before the new exhibit opens. And I for one can’t wait to see what everyone wears tonight and I also can’t wait to fly to New York and see the exhibit in person! But what about you guys?
Alright guys, I gotta turn it over to you now. What are you most looking forward to about the Met Gala this year? The fashion, the celebs, or the drama? Sound off in the comment section below and hit me on Instagram and let me know your thoughts too.
