Televisions favorite Friends are officially coming back to NBC for a once-in-a-lifetime special, and no this is not a drill, a hoax or an excuse to bet your apartment on.
We knew it all along, and in the words of Ross Geller, THEY WERE ON A BREAK, only to join together once more, and our hearts are literally jumping with joy…
Ok, so it was like a 16-year-long break and technically the television special is only for a short period of time, BUT years of reunion rumors finally have some truth to them, so we’ll take what we can get. NBC has just confirmed that the entire Friends cast, including Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer will all be taking part in a special 2-hour special honoring legendary sitcom director James Burrows next month.
However, there may be one downfall to the reunion, as NBC's Robert Greenblatt told reporters when asked if all six would be making an appearance for the special, QUOTE, "Hoping that all six of them will be in the same room at the same time, but I'm not sure we can logistically pull that off."
Burrows, who was recently praised for his 1,000th episode of TV, has directed many other popular television sitcoms, including Cheers, Will and Grace, Friends, Mike and Molly,Taxi, Frasier, NewsRadio and many more. Sean Hayes of Will and Grace will be producing the special, so the Will and Grace cast will also be in attendance.
So Friends fanatics, you better soak up this one-time special as much as you can because the show’s cocreater Marta Kaufman insists that this is going to be the only reunion you get. She, along with the show’s other producers have been adamant about the Friends not reuniting for a scripted special, as she specifically mentioned last year that fans QUOTE, "have to let it go. It'll never happen—not happening!"
So if this is the only reunion we’ll get, then we’ll make our peace with it, BUT raise your hand if you’re already planning an epic watch party, like us here at Clevver, and you best be doing so come February 21st at 9 p.m. because this Friends special is NOT COMMON, IT DOESN’T HAPPEN TO EVERY GUY, AND IT IS A BIG DEAL.
