Gigi Hadid apologizes to fans for her Melania Trump impression at the AMAs!
Gigi Hadid co-hosted the American Music Awards on Sunday, and in her opening monologue with Jay Pharoah poked fun at future first lady Melania Trump. Gigi nailed an impression that parodied Melania’s speech at the Republican National Convention that plagiarized Michelle Obama’s speech. Gigi received a TON of backlash for disrespecting Melania, with many claiming she was being both racist and a bully.
Gigi took to Twitter to post a handwritten apology reading in part, “...I removed or changed anything in the script that I felt took the joke too far, and whether or not you choose to see it, what remained was done in good humor and with no bad intent...I apologize to anyone that I offended and have only the best wishes for our country.” Some critics believe Gigi shouldn’t have to apologize for the 10 second spoof, a must lesser offense than Saturday Night Live’s constant political spoofs.
Gigi also acknowledged quote, “I believe Melania understands show business and the way shows are written and run.”
Speaking of show business, thanks to W Magazine we have a clip of Gigi Hadid singing her favorite Broadway tune! When asked what her go-to karaoke song is Gigi burst out into song with Wicked’s “Popular”.
Kristin Chenoweth who originally played Glinda in the Broadway show, took to Twitter to praise Gigi writing quote, “Bravo @GigiHadid!”. After news that Gigi had a singing career at age 12, the spot-on impression, and now this- all signs point to Gigi’s next career move into acting, singing, comedy, or broadway! Do you guys think Gigi should have apologized? Tell us down below and then check out her opening monologue speech at the AMAs in that video right there. I’m your host Jackie Iadonisi, thanks for tuning in.
