So back on July 12, 2016, Gigi posted this photo of herself with rollers in her hair and a jacket that reads “hadidas”! Cute photo right?! It has over 1.2 million likes on Instagram and she posted a link on her Twitter as well. So what’s the problem with this picture? Well, the picture is fine, the issue is she didn’t have the right to post it according to the photographer who is now suing her. Many paparazzi photographers make their money when they license their photos out and websites and media outlets purchase them for use. According to TheBlast.com, Peter Cepeda licensed his photos out and sold it to different websites. It goes on to say that, “The photographer claims to be the sole owner of the copyright for the photos, and numerous demands for Hadid to remove the social media postings have been unanswered. He’s suing for an injunction prohibiting the model from using his photos, and of course, damages.” Since Gigi ignored the copyright and posted it to her social media, he missed out on quite a bit of cash because pretty much anybody can link to an Instagram photo without getting permission.
Now I know, technically she is the one in the picture and maybe she didn’t think about how this affects the photographer, but why did she leave it up? Is this a case of well the picture is already posted so there’s nothing I can do now? Looks like it, but now she has a lawsuit to deal with. Geez, this lawsuit plus the backlash from the Buddha cookie video that came up again last week, Gigi can’t catch a break. At least she can cuddle up with Zayn when she needs some comfort.
Anyway, what do you think? Is the photographer right to be upset about Gigi posting his photo? Let us know in the comment section below and then click right over here to see why Kim K’s recent photo got some major backlash. Thanks so much for always hanging out with me here on Clevver!
