Katy Perry surprises fans with her newest single from her forthcoming album Witness called “Swish Swish”, letting you all know that karma is a ‘BISHHH’ with a capital ‘B’.
Well she DID warn the haters, saying, ‘don’t come for me’, but who knew that line would end up being an actual lyric in Katy’s next single?!
Katy Perry knows how to stir things up, and fans were pleased to find that last night if they pre-ordered her new album Witness, it would be accompanied with a side of major DISS. Katy tweeted about the promotion just an hour before dropping her newest diss track “Swish Swish” featuring Nicki Minaj, getting fans all hyped up, but as soon as it dropped, booooy were people talkin… check it out:
By now, any celeb who is ANY CELEB that has ever been in the center of a feud should know that if you drop a diss track, it is automatically assumed that you are hinting at said opponent, so naturally, Katy Cats went WILD as those Taylor Swift tweets came rolling in.
Many fans were quick to point out that one of Katy’s lyrics referenced her infamous tweet about Taylor Swift being the “Regina George in sheep’s clothing” back in 2014, as the song says, “A tiger don't lose no sleep, don't need opinions from a shellfish or a sheep.” And although a little far-fetched, many Twitter users also believe the title of the song “Swish Swish” to be a hint at Taylor’s last name referencing “Swift Swift”.
But although many Katy Cats applauded the singer for standing her ground and putting out such a powerful track, some weren’t big fans of the catchy pop song, including one of Taylor Swift’s good friends Ruby Rose, who’s always been one to stand up for what she believes in.
Ruby didn’t shy away from voicing her opinion via Twitter, mocking Katy’s comments that her new album would be more ‘purposeful pop’ this time around, as she tweeted QUOTE, “Purposeful poop” to “bomb a petit” to a sloppy mess of writing over the top of Funkagenda..stop trying to make 'Wit..I mean "fetch" happen.” Ruby was also quick to mention Katy’s involvement in Hilary Clinton’s campaign from going to a song like this, saying, “I just think with everything going on in the world to go from rebranding as political activist only to ditch it and go low.. is.. a bummer.”
Some fans agreed with Ruby’s statements, however one urged Ruby not to group Nicki Minaj in that category, when Ruby then corrected herself and complimented Nicki, writing back, “Not gonna lie Nicki is great on it and basically the only part that doesn't sound a mess.”
And finally, Ruby ended her series of tweets and responses, by reiterating that she’ll never NOT stand up for what she believes, saying QUOTE, “I've always stood up for the people I love and against things I think are cheap or mean spirited. That's not new. You have to follow your heart. You are her fans you should buy all her songs so the songs will finally chart. If as many as tweeted me bought her last 3... they'd be hits.”
I don’t know about you guys, but I sure got enough tea this morning to last me all month… I can only imagine what the rest of Katy’s album will sound like, and better yet, will we hear another response from Taylor? The never-ending feud, I tell ya… but I want to know what you guys thought about Katy’s single – is it dissing Taylor, or was it more of a general assumption?
