Jennifer Aniston has just given Friends fans a major reality check on what the iconic sitcom would be like if it took place today, and let’s just say, thank GOD for the ‘90s.
After years of speculation and a crapload of hope, a Friends reunion is still not in the foreseeable future, but if anyone told you life was gonna be this way, let it be Jen Aniston.
It was the year 1994, a much simpler time, with no cell phones, Instagram, attempting to search for the nearest wifi hotspot and the start of an everlasting friendship between 6 New York City locals. The beauty about the beloved sitcom Friends was that in order to ask about each other’s days, catch up with your friends, or ask someone out on a date, that had to be done in person. Like GOD FORBID, face-to-face. You’re familiar with the term, right?
Jennifer Aniston, who played America’s sweetheart Rachel Green in the series, sat down with Ariana Huffington just yesterday on iHeartRadio’s Thrive Global Podcast and revealed that a Friends reboot would be much different today for one specific reason. She said QUOTE, “If Friends was created today, you would have a coffee shop full of people that were just staring into iPhones. There would be no actual episodes or conversations.”
I mean, just think about it: if Joey was busy sliding into DMs, Rachel was posting her best selfie, Monica was uploading to her YouTube cooking channel, Ross was listening to the latest podcast, Chandler was tweeting his best one-liner, and Phoebe was… well, just being Phoebe, we’d get no hard-hitting vent seshes, post-first-date stories, or just random, sporadic singing…
But in all seriousness, Jen also revealed that she chooses not to be on social media due to the fact that the public already knows too much about her, saying QUOTE, “For me, it’s self-preservation not to be seen on social media. There’s enough written about me out there and enough that’s not true. The mystery of who you are as an actor has already been taken from me. This is the one place I actually have that is protected and mine, this little sanctuary.”
Well, you’ve heard it from Jen time and time again, but Rachel Green seems to sum it up best that the season finale of Friends back in 2004 was the last and FINAL episode of Friends there will ever be…
So now that you’re fully aware, I want to know all your thoughts on Jen’s prediction on a modern-day Friends and if you agree or disagree, so get to talking right down here in the comments and after that, you can click right over here to check out even more details on season 2 of 13 Reasons Why.
