Jesse took to the stage to accept his award and kicked off his acceptance by sharing credit with those he believes truly deserved the honor:
He went on to say QUOTE: Now, this is also in particular for the black women who have spent their lifetime dedicated to nurturing everyone before themselves, we can and will do better for you.
Over the last few years, Jesse produced “Stay Woke,” a documentary showing the growth of the Black Lives Matter movement. He’s also written articles for HuffPo and CNN.
Following the inspiring speech, Justin Timberlake took to twitter to post this tweet that was aimed at Jesse speicially and said #inspired. A reporter on twitter fired back saying QUOTE: So does this mean you're going to stop appropriating our music and culture? And apologize to Janet too. #BETAwards
Justin Timberlake responded saying “the more you realize that we are the same, the more we can have a conversation. Which he followed up with 3 more tweets, the first of which said “I feel misunderstood. I responded to a specific tweet that wasn't meant to be a general response. I shouldn't have responded anyway...”
Then he added these two messages I forget this forum sometimes... I was truly inspired by@iJesseWilliams speech because I really do feel that we are all one... A human race. I apologize to anyone that felt I was out of turn. I have nothing but LOVE FOR YOU AND ALL OF US.
