Selena and Bieber both had a big year with their new albums "Purpose" and "Revival,” but both names were nowhere near the announced list of nominees.
The 2016 Grammy Award nominations were announced yesterday morning, December 7th. Despite both releasing albums this year, our favorite exes Selena and Bieber were both at the top of that list titled SNUBBED.
Many fans and even critics assumed Bieber would receive a nomination for his album Purpose, or at least for his singles “What Do You Mean” or “Sorry”. However, his album wasn’t released until Nov. 13, cutting it too close for consideration for the award show. And while his song, “What Do You Mean,” was eligible it was not nominated at all. Justin’s only hope for the Grammy’s is a mention he shares with Skrillex & Diplo who were nominated for “Where Are U Now?” in the Best Dance Recording category.
This isn’t the first time Justin has been snubbed by the Grammy’s. His album Believe wasn’t nominated at all in 2013. His manager, Scooter Braun, said that the Recording Academy QUOTE “blew it” when they didn’t nominate him. The last time the Biebs heard his name in conjunction with the Grammys was in 2011 when he was nominated for Best New Artist.
And The Grammy’s didn’t show his ex girlfriend Selena Gomez any love either. While her album has not yet reached number 1 on the charts, the lead single, "Good for You", was a critical and commercial success, and is her highest-charting US single. When her second single "Same Old Love" was released it was the first album Gomez had more than one top 10 single on that chart.
While SelGo didn’t nab the Grammy nom, she still has a lot to be proud of. Brittany Spanos from Rolling Stone wrote QUOTE "Revival is an audacious name for a 23-year-old singer's second album, but from start to finish, Gomez earns it. This is the sound of a newly empowered pop artist growing into her strengths like never before."
Other people we think were snubbed this year? FETTY WAP made rap song chart history becoming the first act to chart his first four entries in the top 10 simultaneously. While he received noms we think he should have been up for Best New Artist. Rihanna did not receive any love this year at all, even for "FourFiveSeconds". Madonna’s name was nowhere to be found, Drake’s Hotline Bling wasn’t nominated despite being the most meme-worthy artist this year. Apparently, his team didn’t submit the song for consideration because it had not gained enough traction by the Grammy’s deadline. And worth mentioning, for the first time since 2004, Queen Bey is not nominated for a Grammy. But she wasn’t really snubbed…she just didn’t release an album this year.
