Katy Perry unveils her “Chained to the Rhythm” track with a haunting lyric video!
Katy’s new song has finally broke free from the chains!
All week Katy Perry has been teasing her long awaited pop comeback. She’s even planted disco balls around the world for Katycats to find, to listen to the song before anyone else. Today Katy’s new single “Chained to the Rhythm” has officially dropped featuring Skip Marley, and with it came a hypnotizing lyric video. We promise, you won’t be able to look away!
What you just witnessed was a human intricately cooking a hamburger for pet hamster Mr. Parsons. The owner goes on to cook the hamster spaghetti and meatballs, while the hamster watches a mouse on a wheel on TV in an adorable dollhouse.
Upon first listen the song my sound like a dance-floor-ready-party-song, with it’s upbeat retro vibe. But one look at the lyrics will make you realize Katy is sending a powerful message here. According to the singer, self awareness and activism is being overlooked with people being complacent in their lives and focusing on material things. There’s even a subtle political reference in the chorus singing, “Yeah, we think we’re free. Drink, this one is on me. We’re all chained to the rhythm.” It’s not just the beat Katy is referring to, but the rhythm of everyday life.
This political tone should come as no surprise to fans, who know that Katy has been very outspoken during the recent Presidential election. The best news is that we’ll get to see Katy perform this song LIVE at the Grammys this weekend. We’re dying to know what you think of Katy’s political anthem?! Are you surprised? Tell us by leaving a comment below. I’m your host Emile Ennis Jr I’ll see you guys next time.
