Kim Kardashian vs Jennifer Lawrence - Most Searched of 2014?

There’s a good chance you’ve Googled both Jennifer Lawrence and Kim Kardashian at some point this year because both women were at the very peak of hot topic radar.

In fact, Google’s annual Year in Search results have revealed that Kim and Jennifer were amongst the top two trending names searched in 2014. So who was searched more? And what exactly contributed to all of those google searches? Let’s review.

Kim definitely stepped up her couture game this year and was basically a walking designer display, in large part thanks to hubby Kanye’s influence. Her Parisian styles during her wedding weekend alone were like a mobile New York Fashion Week and the couture has only since continued. Of course most of the outfits showed off her famed curves which no doubt resulted in a slew of Google searches. Splurge versus Steal? Those are definitely splurges….

And let’s not forget that Kim is the selfie queen. Between her back selfie mirror shot of her butt nearly eating her white bikini and then the recent fiasco that circulated around her cropping baby North out of an Instagram pic – come on, you know you Googled it just to see what the ruckus was all about.

Yet another contribution to Kim’s high trending status in 2014 was no doubt the ceremony and all the hoopla surrounding her becoming Mrs. Kardashian West. The way that news outlets were covering it, guilty, you’d think it was the royal wedding. The Kimye marriage festivities took over the entertainment world for about a month so that no doubt racked her up some good google searches.

And the moment that undoubtedlyskyrocketed Kim to trend domination was the magazine spread that “broke the internet.” When Kim posed nude for Paper magazine, there was no escaping the image of her glazed doughnut booty. It was on your Facebook newsfeed, your twitter feed, tumblr, EVERYWHERE. There was no un-seeing it and you can bet everyone and their mama googled it.

And then there’s our girl, Jennifer Lawrence. It really comes as no surprise that everyone’s best friend in their head was a top trender because people can’t get enough of her.

A few small factors that may have contributed to her landing amongst the top searches are 1. she was nominated for an Oscar for the second year in a row – this time for her work in American Hustle -- and then she fell... AGAIN. But this time it was on the red carpet before the show. The Internet freaked out.

Reason two. Catching Fire came out this year. Not only did this surely garner her some attention, but the fact that she sings on the soundtrack in “Hanging Tree” and the fact that it charted on iTunes definitely had something to do with boosting those searches. And despite how badly she thinks she sounded – remember that she said that in interviews! – the song is actually really good and may or may not be on my most played playlist.

Number 3. People just can’t get enough of X-Men and Days of Future Past hit theatres and came out on DVD and Blu-Ray this year. Jennifer as Mystique definitely earned the star a few searches. Just a few.

But unfortunately, a huge contributor was no doubt Jennifer’s nude photo hack. Unlike Kim K, Jennifer’s nude photo exposure was not voluntary and it was a huge scandal. In fact, it was really sad that so many people viewed and shared Jennifer’s photos that were never meant to be shared with anyone other than her boyfriend at the time. So clearly being a top trending topic is not always a good thing. Other public figures on Google’s most searched people list include Tracy Morgan, Renee Zellweger, Jared Leto, Lorde and Donald Sterling.

So between Kim K and Jennifer, who snagged the top spot? If you guessed Jennifer Lawrence, you are correct.

Although Jennifer topped the top trending global list of people, Kim K snagged the number one spot for top trending weddings. Followed by George Clooney’s nuptials to Amal Alamuddin and Brangelina.
