[KiniNews] Bersatu co-founder and president Muhyiddin Yassin has announced that he will not be defending his position in the upcoming party election.

"I will not defend my president's post in the party election that will be held before the end of next year," he said during his address at the Bersatu national delegates conference in Shah Alam today.

His announcement was met with surprise by many delegates, who immediately urged him to reconsider.

Meanwhile, in a separate story, former police commando Sirul Azhar Umar has remained tight-lipped about the mystery surrounding who actually ordered the killing of the Mongolian national, Altantuya Shaariibuu.

In an interview with Al-Jazeera’s 101 East programme which was aired this morning, Sirul also claimed that he had been paid for his silence in the past from an undisclosed source.
