KJ Apa REPLACES Kian Lawley In New Film "The Hate U Give"

After a video surfaced in which Kian Lawley threw racist slurs around, he was immediately cut from the upcoming Fox 2000 film The Hate U Give and dropped by his agency CAA. The thing is, The Hate U Give had already WRAPPED, so Fox scrambled for a replacement and settled on Riverdale’s star, KJ Apa. He darkened his now signature crimson hair and just flew to Atlanta for a week to reshoot ALL of Kian’s scenes.
The production’s decision makes complete sense, and even Kian agreed. He tweeted: “Words have power and can do damage. I own mine and I am sorry. I respect Fox’s decision to recast this role for The Hate U Give as it is an important story, and it would not be appropriate for me to be involved considering the actions of my past.”
The Hate U Give stars Amandla Stenberg as a prep school teen who witnesses a police officer kill her unarmed African American friend. The tragedy turns her into an activist. KJ will take over the role of her boyfriend who QUOTE “never concerned himself with the different skin color of the girlfriend he adores, and knows little about her life back home. Until she becomes the only witness in the police shooting, and becomes increasingly political as she grieves the death of her friend Khalil. It awakens him to how deeply race impacts their relationship”. The movie also stars Issa Rae, Regina Hall and Sabrina Carpenter. The last movie to do something like this was All The Money in the World which originally had Kevin Spacey in it and was also wrapped with a release date. After news broke that Spacey was a serial sexual predator, production replaced him with Christopher Plummer and that role got him an Oscar nom - so maybe that will be in the cards for KJ?
