We start with jjukkumi bokkeum- spicy grilled baby octopus- a cracker of a dish! Jjukkumi is cooked on a hotplate on the table and served with banchan and is eaten ssam style (in a wrap). This meal was a major highlight of this trip to Seoul- spicy, tender and the accompanying banchan and sauces were perfect!

Next up we head to grilled fish alley in Dongadaemun, a narrow street made up of small restaurants serving grilled fish set meals made up of rice, soup and banchan. Smoky, tender filets of fish and a generous amount of sides make for a really satisfying meal.

We finish with pajeon- a Korean pancake. Pajeon alley is famous for serving pancakes with a thick, crispy edge and they’re really great value too. We wash our seafood pancake down with makgeolli, Korean rice wine. A must eat!

Where we ate:

Jjukkumi Bokkeum at 98, Cheonhoyet-gil, Gangdong-gu, Seoul, open afternoon and evening. Google pin: https://www.google.com.my/maps/@37.5371704,127.1264051,3a,75y,283.64h,79.72t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sn0fJsJDvrNHZKfDib3cDmw!2e0!7i13312!8i6656

Grilled fish alley, 서울특별시 종로구 종로5.6가동 종로40가길, open for breakfast and lunch.

Nakseo Pajeon, 서울특별시 동대문구 휘경동 319-40. Open from 2:00pm until late (we suggest visiting in the evening).
