Kristen Bell is making history as the first ever host of the Screen Actors Guild Awards, and she’s certainly making sure it’s a night to remember.
Kristen Bell opened up the SAG Awards with a killer monologue that was shady AF.
Okay, you guys… It’s the 24th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards, and in case you didn’t already know, the incredible Kristen Bell is hosting, which is iconic in more ways than one.
First and foremost, she’s the first host that the SAG Awards has EVER had, period. Secondly, with gender equality and the #MeToo and #TimesUp movements at the forefront of everyone’s minds, it’s obviously extremely significant that the first host of the show, after 23 years with no host, is a woman.
And, as the first host, Kristen started off the evening strong with an opening monologue that made a hilarious reference to the fact that she was the quote-unquote “first lady” of the SAG Awards. She said, QUOTE, “I never thought I’d grow up to be the first lady, but you know what? I kinda like it.” Yeah… it’s a nice life!
But, as we all know, every “first lady” needs an initiative, right? So, like someone else we all know— cough, cough, Melania Trump – Kristen has also decided to tackle the problem of cyberbullying, since, you know, the actual first lady hasn’t done a ton to solve the problem.
OMG… the shade is REAL, guys!
And even though Kristen started off her monologue joking about Melania’s failure to do, well, anything at all, she went on to explain the importance of SAG Awards, and the need we have for actors to make unheard voices heard through the art of storytelling.
Overall, the monologue was the perfect balance between funny and inspirational, but most importantly, she answered the question ALL of us have been waiting to get an answer for.
Anyways, while we’re waiting for that Frozen sequel, let us know what you think about Kristen’s opening monologue in the comments below, and then click to the left to see the best-dressed celebs at the SAG Awards.
