Disney’s live-action version of The Lion King dropped the official movie posters, and the unanimous concern over the infamous warthog has taken the Internet by storm…
What’s up guys, it’s your host Sinead deVries back here on Clevver News, and we’re just weeks away from continuing on the live-action train, as the highly anticipated release of the The Lion King is set to hit theaters in July due to its STACKED cast of actors including Donald Glover, Beyonce, Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner, and many more.
Disney has already dropped the full trailer, but yesterday, we got a full glimpse into what each character looks like in IRL form. Let’s just say 98% of the characters were spot on, however, the critics (AKA Twitter) have spoken, and they’ve got one question: Pumbaa, you good?
So yeah, we were kinda expecting a goofy and chubby-but-cute kind of animal, and what we got was the equivalent of the whole Instagram vs. reality sorta thing. Fans had a lot to say about the real-life warthog, containing tusks coming out of like, 12 crevices of its body… but now that I think about it, my only perception of a warthog has been… well, cartoon Pumbaa…
Many fans took to Twitter to compare Pumbaa to something out of their worst nightmare, writing things like, “Pumbaa looks like he walked in from the set of The Witch” and my personal favorite: “Bro just wondering why Pumbaa looks like he’s ready to kill me behind a chillis.”
But many fans came to Disney’s defense, making the argument that the general population probably hasn’t seen a warthog in real life… and let me tell you, I just went HAM on Google and Disney did us all a favor back in ‘94.
Many users backed Disney’s real-life portrayal of Pumbaa, as one tweet read, “Y’all just now realizing warthogs are ugly AF? Pumbaa is beautiful on the inside,” and another who asked, “What the hell, y’all thought Pumbaa was supposed to look like? Piglet?”
I mean, yeah….
So now that we can all say we’ve lived through a life with humans who just collectively body-shamed an African pig, I’m drained and need to turn this debate over to you guys -- were you at least a little shocked to find out Pumbaa’s true colors?
