Disney Announces Cast For Aladdin Live-Action Movie & Jasmine Pick Angers Little Mix Fans

It’s a whole new world! Disney finally announces their live-action Aladdin cast, and naturally the Internet has some thoughts.
Little Mix’s Jade Thirwall ALSO has some subtle thoughts on not landing the role of Jasmine.
After TONS of rumors and controversy about who Disney might cast in the live action adaptation of Aladdin, we’ve finally got the official casting announcement. The President of Production at Walt Disney Studios revealed the news at the D23 Expo on Saturday. President Sean Bailey announced QUOTE, “Aladdin will be played by a young actor named Mena Massoud. Jasmine will be played by Naomi Scott.”
Let the Googling begin. Mena is known for his role on Amazon TV’s Jack Ryan series and is a Canadian actor of Egyptian heritage. Naomi on the other hand is a British actress of Indian descent who recently starred in the Power Rangers reboot. Don’t forget it’s already been announced that the iconic Genie role was given to Will Smith.
While the story of Aladdin is set in fictional country Agrabah, many believe it’s clearly a Middle Eastern country. Therefore, not everyone loves the choice of British-Indian actress Naomi as Jasmine. One Twitter user tweeted, “i love naomi scott but i don’t love the “brown ppl are interchangeable” idea that hollywood believes in so it’s a no from me lmao”.
Not being of 100 percent Middle Eastern descent one was of the criticisms Little Mix’s Jade faced when news hit that she was in the running to play Jasmine. And now the internet thinks Jade has shaded Disney for not ultimately giving her the big role. Shortly after the news was announced Jade posted a screenshot from Little Mix’s “Shout Out To My Ex” video where she’s holding a sign on a pistol that says “over it”. Yes, this could mean ANYTHING but naturally the internet is sure it’s in response to the casting.
