From bad breakups to battling diseases, prepare yourselves for a totally different side of Little Mix.
For the first time in Little Mix history, the foursome is officially letting fans in on the most personal aspects of their lives, thanks to their tell-all autobiography titled Our World. The new book, released just on the heels of the band’s newest single “Shout Out To My Ex” contains many revelations about their past struggles, including Perrie’s public breakup with Zayn Malik, but one story in particular is making headlines, and it’s coming from Jade Thirlwall.
She opens up about her past struggles with battling anorexia that began as early as 13 years old. Jade recalls being bullied in school, along with enduring the pain of a family death which ultimately led to dropping a dramatic amount of weight and even becoming hospitalized, saying QUOTE, “My periods stopped and things were getting out of control but I don't think I really cared about what was happening to me. I felt so depressed at the time that I just wanted to waste away and disappear.”
She also reveals that the eating disorder made her become stubborn due to the nature of the self-destructive disease and that, “when people are trying to tell you something you get it into your head that they’re against you and you’re not going to listen.”
Her condition and well-being began to spiral downhill so quickly that she ended up checking into the hospital, when she recalls first realizing that the condition was ‘something really serious.’ She said, “They sat me down in the clinic and were quite tough at first, spelling it out, ‘You're destroying your body and if you keep doing this you will die.’”
Jade eventually regained her health all thanks to weekly visits to the hospital, along with the support of her girls in Little Mix and finishing school. Much like Jade, Perrie also credited the band with helping her bounce back from her breakup, saying QUOTE, “The girls were amazing. We'd have sleepovers and they'd get my favorite desserts and do everything they could to cheer me up.”
So here’s to hoping Jade’s strength in seeking help will encourage many others to do the same, but I’ve gotta hand it to these girls for always having each other’s’ backs… their stories truly are inspiring, but I want to hear all your thoughts on Jade’s confessions in Little Mix’s new book, and if you’re dying to read more, the book is now on sale, so get to it!
