Lorde Apologizes For Comparing Taylor Swift Friendship to Autoimmune Disease

Lorde apologizes after comparing her friendship to someone with an autoimmune disease.

All we can think is… what would Selena Gomez say?!
Lorde is currently promoting her new album “Melodrama”. In a recent interview with The Guardian, the New Zealand popstar talked about what it’s like being friends with someone who is incredibly famous. While Lorde didn’t mention Taylor Swift by name, she didn’t have to.
Lorde told the site QUOTE, “It’s like having a friend with very specific allergies. There are certain places you can’t go together. Certain things you can’t do. There are these different sets of considerations within the friendship. It’s like having a friend with an autoimmune disease.”
It’s no surprise these comments didn’t sit well with the internet-- because not being able to go places because you are famous and not being able to go places because you have a disease-- is much different.
Lorde is now backtracking on the those comments and has apologized for insensitively comparing fame to a disease. On Twitter Lorde responded to a tweet that asked how Selena Gomez would feel about this. As one of Taylor’s best friends, Selena actually does suffer from an autoimmune disease called Lupus.
Lorde clarified that she never mentioned Taylor Swift and apologizes writing, “@stefinitely85 didn't mention taylor, but regardless, i f*cked up & that was really insensitive. i'm sorry”. A fan responded to Lorde’s apology and wrote, “thank you from a disabled fan w an autoimmune disease hope you learn more about ableism and grow from this”.
