19 Celebs dissed by Lorde►►
Sorry Bay Area residents, but that song is officially BANNED from one of your favorite radio stations! Well, at least for the next several days that is.
Yes, we hate to be the bearers of bad news, but San Francisco-based radio station KFOG has decided to stop playing Lorde’s smash single while the SF Giants prepare to take on the Kansas City Royals in the World Series.
In a statement on their Facebook page, the radio station had this to say:
"No offense, Lorde, but for the duration of the World Series, KFOG Radio will be a "Royals"-free zone. We're sure you understand."
Now, you may be like, “what the heck?!” but in case you didn’t know, Lorde’s Grammy-winning song was actually inspired by the baseball team and isn’t just about fancy royal people.
So we guess we can kind of see why SF radio stations are putting the kibosh on the song, since some might take it as an endorsement for the team. And you know finicky people can get about their sports affiliations, especially with the World Series on the line.
However, Kansas City is fully embracing the tune as radio station 99.7 The Point plans to play the song every hour, on the hour from 7 AM until 7 PM.
And for those of you who maybe aren’t up to speed, game one of the World Series kicks off on Tuesday October 21 in Kansas City. And it’s kind of a big deal considering the Royals haven’t played in the World Series since 1985, so history could be made. How crazy is it that Lorde writes a song about them and BAM! They’re going to the world series after an almost 30-year shut out?!
Anyways, what do YOU think of this news? Do you think that SF radio stations are going too far? Or is it just all in good fun? Hit the comments to share your thoughts and feelings, then click HERE
