Everyone is critical of their own bodies, but when you’re a celebrity you have to be careful with the words you use if you choose to speak about your insecurities publicly.
Along with everyone else on social media, Lucy posted a sweet instagram photo with her Dad on Father’s Day. She captioned it with a Hallmark card worthy caption saying – “You taught me to have a soul. I love you daddy.” But then added a comment about her weight that didn’t go over to well with her followers. She added QUOTE – “ugh I was so fat.” Which insinuates that the photo was a throwback. Lucy has since deleted the part of the caption about her weight due to the fact that the comment section had quite the visceral reaction to the weight comment. One person wrote - "I know you've got the right to say that, but just imagine what it's like for your fans who are a little bit bigger or struggling with their body to hear that from their idol who's obviously never been fat.” Another said - "There are people who really are fat and who are big fans of you. That could sound offensive. I'm one of them." While another wrote - "Probably not a great thing to say that this weight was 'fat,' considering how many young girls are going to read that and get upset about their bodies.” Reasons that seemed to be a trend throughout the comment section as to why the caption was a trigger were because A) Lucy was clearly not overweight in the photo and B) people took offense to the fact that she paired “ugh” with “fat” which prompted people to leave comments like “you’re not fat, you’re beautiful.” This raised the argument that it’s offensive to insinuate that fat is the opposite of beautiful.
Lucy has since deleted the fat comment out of the caption and apologized on Twitter writing - “Sometimes I forget that people are watching everything I do and I say things I don't mean. I'm extremely sorry if my comment about my weight offended anyone. Sometimes we can be our own worst enemy. I know people look up to me and I should be way more aware of what I say sometimes. Thanks for all the love and support. Hope y'all can forgive me!”
