Miley Cyrus’ VMAs date has been sentenced to six months in jail for violating his probation, and Clevver News has all the details.
As we’re sure you remember, Miley brought a 22-year-old name Jesse Helt along with her to the MTV award show back in August, where he gave an impassioned speech about homeless youth in place of Miley’s acceptance speech for her Video of the Year win on “Wrecking Ball.”
However, after that speech people wanted to know more about who Jesse is, and well, we learned that he was arrested for misdemeanor breaking and entering back in 2010 when he was living in Oregon, and was put on probation. Then in 2011, he moved to Los Angeles without ever checking in with his probation officer or completing the community service he was sentenced to.
Since Jesse was thrust into the spotlight at the VMAs, his past caught up with him and on Tuesday October 7 he was sentenced to six months in jail for violating his probation. Jesse didn’t go down without a fight as he asked the judge for leniency and mentioned he would quote “like to be viewed as a good person, not a nuisance to society.” However, Jesse will get credit for 57 days already served.
Miley has spoken out about Jesse’s past saying that “People who are homeless have lived very hard lives,” though she hasn’t released any kind of statement regarding Jesse’s sentence, as of now.
Hopefully this can serve as a clean slate, as we’re sure there are tons of people out there rooting for him.
