The day we never thought would come is here: Reese Witherspoon is returning for Legally Blonde 3.
This is not a drill you guys, it’s time to brush up on your bend and snap.
It’s been 17 years since the first Legally Blonde movie graced theaters and 15 years since the sequel was released. According to Deadline, Reese Witherspoon is currently in talks with MGM to reprise her role as Elle Woods for a third Legally Blonde flick. Yes, this is actually happening. The best part is that they’re looking to bring back most of the creative team from the first movie. Kirsten “Kiwi” Smith and Karen McCullah who wrote the original film are in talks to write the script. The original producer Marc Platt will be producing the third installment- but this time partnering with Reese’s company Hello Sunshine. What… like it’s hard?! Now, they just need to make sure Jennifer Coolidge can reprise her role as Paulette, because honestly it just won’t be the same without her.
And let’s be real here, there couldn’t be a better time in culture for a new kick-ass female empowerment flick. No details about the plot have been revealed yet, but Deadline reports it will be “in the spirit of the first film, in which Woods’ idealism and pink-dominant wardrobe prevailed over the cynicism and snootiness all around her.” UGH, the outfits. We can’t wait to obsess over 2018-era Elle and all the GIFs we’ll be able to share on Twitter. Now our mind is racing… does Elle have kids now? Or is she still searching for the perfect man? And does she still wear pink suits to the courtroom? Whoever said orange is the new pink was seriously disturbed.
