To try Gleides’ delicious cooking, head to Mi Casa Es Su Casa (Gleides' Colombian Food) Facebook page to order: https://www.facebook.com/micasaessucasanz/
Mi Casa Es Su Casa requires 48 hours notice and pick up is on Saturday and Sunday. Pick up is in West Auckland and details will be provided once you finalise your order. All home kitchens featured in this series are Council certified.

This is a special 3 part series about 3 women who came to Aotearoa New Zealand as refugees and over the past couple of years have set up successful businesses cooking and selling food from their home kitchens.

Today we’re taking you into the home of Gleides Garcia who is from Colombia and came to New Zealand by way of Ecuador. Gleides is the empanada queen of Auckland and is famous in the Colombian community- offering many a taste of home.

Gleides started selling her food through word of mouth and has a WhatsApp group made up of hundreds of regulars. She graduated from Iti Rearea Collective’s Soar programme and Mi Casa Es Su Casa (Gleides' Colombian food) was born. Iti Rearea is a collective made up of not for profit organisations- they work with refugees and migrant communities to set up successful small businesses by providing business mentoring and micro-financing.

If you are a former refugee or migrant and are interested in setting up your own small business talk to Iti Rearea Collective to see if they can help: https://www.itirearea.co/

Special thanks to Lisa Lopeti and Suzanna Mak of Iti Rearea Collective for helping us bring this series to life, to Gleides for welcoming us into her home and sharing her story with us and Agustina Marianacci for translating during the shoot and in the editing phase.

We’re Thomas and Sheena, food and travel fiends. We travel full time, hunting for the BEST local food in the world to showcase via our YouTube videos. Food is a window into a country's culture and one of the most exciting ways to get to know a place.

We're all about eating what and where the locals eat. You won't find food that's been created merely to be social media worthy on here- no rainbow bagels, gold leaf soft serves- just honest food that tastes incredible.

From street food to mom and pop restaurants, we want to show you the best food we find on our travels.
