Riverdale Showrunner TEASES Main Character Death & Answers S3 BURNING Questions

But luckily we don’t have to wait much longer, as Riverdale season 3 kicks off in a week! While promoting the new season, showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sasaca answered some questions for ET’s ‘Sweetwater Secrets’ show, where all things ‘Riverdale’ are discussed and analyzed. Roberto was surprisingly generous in answering questions about what fans can expect from the show, and he even gave us a little insight into season 3’s BIGGEST mystery: Who is the “Gargoyle King”?
Roberto further explained QUOTE, “One of our central mysteries starts when the bodies of two students are found in the woods and it’s discovered that they were playing Griffins and Gargoyles and that the main villain of the game - the Gargoyle King - may also be stalking the streets of Riverdale.”
Roberto also teased about Varchie’s relationship status in season 3. He revealed QUOTE, “I thought that Varchie might be sacrificed early in the season, but their passion has proved very resilient. So you can tell Varchie fans that they are fighting to stay together and if the ship goes down, they will go down fighting because these two are crazy about each other and they just won’t let go of each other.”
If you watched the trailer and are completely confused as to why Archie has a serpent tattoo in the new season, then fear not because Roberto also explained that detail and the reason for it is way more practical than any of us thought.
Don’t you just love their dark bromance?
And as if these teases weren’t enough, Roberto revealed even MORE shocking info on Twitter, when he admitted that not all of the main characters will survive past the show’s mid-season finale.
He tweeted QUOTE, “Life goes on (for MOST of our series regulars) in Episode #309 of Riverdale," followed by emojis of dice, a boxing glove, and a skull and crossbones.
So if we take Roberto at his word, Episode 8, called "Outbreak," might see a one of the show’s main characters saying goodbye to Riverdale forever. It’s probably not gonna be Archie, Veronica, Jughead, or Betty, considering the show is only on season 3, but STILL. This show is full of surprises and we wouldn’t put it past Roberto to break our hearts by killing off one of our faves.
