Scooter Braun just broke his silence on the Taylor Swift drama and is begging her to sit down and talk.
What’s up guys? It’s Sussan Mourad here with Clevver News and if you’ve been keeping close tabs on all this Scooter Braun/Scott Borchetta/Taylor Swift drama like I have, you know that it’s been an EXHAUSTING few weeks.
You also know that Scooter Braun has been pretty quiet about the whole thing minus posting some cryptic quotes like “kindness is the only response.”
He hasn’t exactly spoken publicly about the battle between Taylor Swift and Big Machine since he purchased it, and thus the masters to her first 6 albums, for $300 million.
Things have since escalated over the past few weeks because Taylor posting to her IG stories saying she wasn’t allowed to perform a medley of her old hits when she’s honored with the American Music Award for artist of the decade.
Most of what she said is summed up in one part of her story where she wrote quote, “Scott Borchetta and Scooter Braun have now said that I’m not allowed to perform my old music on television because that would be re-recording my music before I’m allowed to next year.”
And Taylor has been very open about her feelings towards Scooter.
And over the past couple weeks, it’s been a lot of back and forth and he said/she said about the AMA’s, but we’ve landed on Taylor being able to perform her old music, if she wants to.
Jury is still out on if she actually will.
But anyway, back to Scooter.
Sources told TMZ that Scooter won’t be attending the AMA’s and that he never planned to.
Instead, he’ll be in Tampa, Florida supporting one of his hugely successful artists, Ariana Grande.
Which I guess means Ari won’t be attending the show either despite the fact she’s nominated in the top category, Artist of the Year.
But now, Scooter just broke his silence about all the Taylor drama yesterday at a Variety conference.
He didn’t address specifics or actually say Taylor’s name, but he definitely made his message loud and clear and it was “let’s talk.”
The moderator asked Scooter how he wraps his head around having so many Swifties casting him as the villain in the situation.
He started off by saying quote, “I haven’t talked about this in six months. Not once. I haven’t made a statement about it. When there’s a lot of things being said and a lot of different opinions, yet the principals haven’t had a chance to speak to each other, there’s a lot of confusion.”
He continued on and said quote, “I’m not going to go into details here, because it’s just not my style. I just think we live in a time of toxic division, and of people thinking that social media is the appropriate place to air out on each other and not have conversations. And I don’t like politicians doing it. I don’t like anybody doing it, and if that means that I’ve got to be the bad guy longer, I’ll be the bad guy longer, but I’m not going to participate.”
Scooter also alluded to Big Machine’s official statement saying that the company and Taylor had been trying to negotiate but she broke it off when she decided to go to social media with her side of the story.
Scooter said quote, “What I’ll say is, people need to communicate, and when people are able to communicate, I think they work things out. And I think a lot of times things are miscommunications, because I believe that people are fundamentally good.”
He went on and said quote, “I think that these problems that are being discussed can be discussed behind closed doors and figured out pretty easily, and it’s something I’ve wanted to do for six months.”
But I want to know what you guys think about all of this. What do you think about what Scooter had to say? Do you think they should talk it out? And do you think she will perform any of her old music at the AMA’s on Sunday?
