Shadowhunters Fans Try to SAVE Show After Shocking CANCELLATION

Fans around the world Try SAVING Freeform’s Shadowhunters after the show’s shocking cancellation -- PLUS get the details on WHY it was cancelled.
The Shadowhunters fandom will not go down without a fight.
Freeform favorite Shadowhunters, which is based on the Mortal Instruments book series, will end after three seasonS. In a statement, the network said of the cancellation QUOTE, “We are very proud of Shadowhunters, a series that broke new ground in the genre world and became a fan favourite. However, along with our partners at Constantin, we reached the very difficult decision not to renew the show for a fourth season.” One exec called the decision to pull the plug on the show QUOTE, “purely economic”.
Freeform went on to explain that the fantasy drama will end its run in 2019 with a 12-episode season and a two-hour finale. The current third season is based on the fourth and fifth books in the series, and its two-hour finale will be based on the sixth and final installment.
Fans of the show were understandably SHOOK at the news, and they even started the hashtag #saveshadowhunters on Twitter, using it to share their frustration, devastation, and anger over the cancellation news.
One fan shared QUOTE, “i came out to my mom and best friend because of Alec Lightwood. You're not allowed to take him away until I gather the courage to come out to everyone in real life. #saveshadowhunters.”
One also pointed out QUOTE, “REPRESENTATION MATTERS : Out of the eight series regulars, five are people of color. #SAVESHADOWHUNTERS”
And another tweeted QUOTE, “i’m really mad. if this is the last shadowhunters run, that means a malec marriage, simon and izzy’s relationship, raphael’s return, & more will be shoved into 12 episodes to make fans happy. this isn’t what we want. we want this gradually and realistically #saveshadowhunters.”
However Shadowhunters showrunner Todd Slavkin took to Twitter to reassure fans that despite the show being cut short, they WILL be satisfied with how things wrap up. He revealed QUOTE, “It's not rushed. Not at all. It's beautiful. Thanks to the brilliant [Shadowhunters Writers Room] if has to end like this, you all will be deeply satisfied.”
When asked what she thinks of the fans’ push to save the series, star Kat MacNamara said QUOTE, “I would love that! I love the show and I would love to finish it out. Hopefully your tweets will encourage something to happen.”
But she also added QUOTE, “If [the hashtags] make a difference, amazing. If not, we’ve got 10 more amazing episodes in the can and we’re gonna shoot the most kickass finale you’ve ever seen.”
