Shawn Mendes Says He's A "Big Brother" To His Fans & Goes Unplugged For MTV

In case you can’t wait for the September 8th air date, don’t worry, we couldn’t either, so we had to satisfy ourselves with this clip of the crooner singing his intense acoustic version of ‘There’s Nothing Holding Me Back”.
Well, if that performance is any indication of how the rest of the special is going to go, we are definitely in for a treat come Friday. According to MTV, Shawn HEAVILY prepped for the show. The singer told the crowd that he watched many Unplugged specials featuring Nirvana and Pearl Jam in the weeks leading up to his own concert recording. And, of course, he rehearsed with his band a lot, telling MTV that they worked on acoustic arrangements before and after the shows he performed as part of his Illuminate world tour. But if you know any Shawn Mendes song, you know that his acoustic style totally perfect for these intimate shows, so we can certainly expect something really special on Friday. Apparently, he also brought out a string quartet AND in honor of his Vine roots performed a cover or two. He also talked several times about how grateful he is to fans, and how he wanted all in attendance to QUOTE “just have fun and sing along with [him].”
It’s no secret how much Shawn cares about his fans, and he really delved into how he sees his relationship with them in his recent interview with Paper magazine. He definitely feels a sense of responsibility to them, saying he sees the dynamic as QUOTE:” this older brother thing, where he's your older brother who's the captain of the football team but he's someone you look up to and admire and ask for advice and pay attention to. But he's also your brother at the same time and I think that's the best of both worlds. I know that they all look up to what I say, and I try to be a great role model. They truly appreciate what I say and what I do, but at the same time, they all remember that I'm human and I'm just a dude and that's really nice,"
