Prepare yourselves, Mendes Army, because Shawn’s newest business venture might just have you all begging for ‘mercy’…
He’s stolen the hearts of millions by making you feel things you never you could feel with the raw emotion behind his lyrics, and now Shawn Mendes is preparing for the movie debut of a lifetime, as he’s set to star in director Ivan Reitman’s upcoming musical Summer of Love.
The fellow Canadian director recruited Shawn to star in his first-ever directed musical, which is currently being sold to studios. Plot details are being kept on the low-down however the plot is set to take place as a road trip-type film in the summer of 1967, when hundreds of thousands of young hippies overflowed San Francisco’s famous Haight Ashbury in opposition to the Vietnam War.
The summer was best known for its iconic music from artists who rose to fame in the ‘60s including The Who, The Grateful Dead, The Animals, Jimi Hendrix, Jefferson Airplane, Janis Joplin and The Byrds.
Although this isn’t technically Shawn’s ‘first’ dive into the film industry, as he recently voiced a character in The Weinstein Co.’s 2013 animated film Underdogs, the movie being a musical has already sparked a large interest with studios seeing the outpouring of success the most recent musical gained, that being La La Land, taking in a whopping $400 million worldwide.
Reitman has many other successful films under his belt, including No Strings Attached and Draft Day, so it’s no question that Shawn’s immeasurable talent combined with the prestigious direction of the play will make for yet another box office hit. There is no word when production will begin or a release date for that matter, but thankfully you’re able to tune into any and every radio station at any hour of the day to get a glimpse at what we’ll be workin’ with.
But right now I want to know all your thoughts on Shawn scoring his first major movie role, so hit us up in the comments section below, and after that, be sure to click right over here to see what Demi Lovato had to say about starring in an R-Rated ‘Camp Rock’ alongside the Jonas brothers, and as always don’t forget to subscribe to our channel.
