If you’ve been missing your East High Wildcats then get excited for 2019 because a High School Musical tv series is in the works.
We’ve heard rumors that a 4th film is on the way and now we’re learning we get a series too?! It’s a happy Friday.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, after an investors meeting with Disney yesterday, it was confirmed that a series based on the High School Musical film franchise will debut on Disney’s own streaming service in 2019! No word yet on whether or not we will see the original characters return or perhaps the cast of the 4th film in the works, but we do know it’s coming. As for the streaming service, Deadline has reported that it will produce other original TV series including Star Wars, Marvel, and Monsters Inc. series in addition to content that is already featured on Disney Channel such as their shows and movies. The idea is to create Disney’s own version of Netflix but with only their content and for a lower subscription price. Disney’s chairman-CEO made a statement saying that the plan is to QUOTE – “…offer the service for less than the price of Netflix, which currently costs $11 per month for its standard plan.” He added that because Disney’s streaming service will have less content then Netflix overall, the price will reflect that.
All I need to know is will the original DCOMs be available and the classic series like Lizzie Mcguire, That’s So Raven, and the Proud Family? Give me that Disney and you will have a customer forever. I’m talkin, Zenon, Smart House, Luck of the Irish, all the goods. Let’s make it happen.
But as for this High School Musical situation, we don’t know if the series will somehow tie into the new movie coming out or if we’ll get to see Troy and Gabriella reunite, so in the meantime we’re just going to let our imaginations run wild. What do you guys think about HSM getting a series and what would you like to see on Disney’s streaming service?
