It’s new music Friday and boy did the celebs turn up this time! Not only did we get songs from Miley Cyrus and Normani, but Taylor Swift just dropped one of her most romantic, heart string tugging songs ever and it has me feeling all the feelings.
What’s up? It’s Erin Robinson here with Clevver News and just one week before we get to hear Taylor’s entire new album, she gave us the gift of the title track, Lover and it’s everything I needed.
The song brings me back to some of Taylor's older albums like Red, Speak Now, or even 1989 and to say I like it would be an understatement. It's pretty much been on repeat for the last 24 hours.
And while Taylor doesn’t refer to her British boyfriend of almost three years, Joe Alwyn, by name in the song, I have no doubt that the track was inspired by their love.
It literally feels like a love letter to him and they might even be engaged or MARRIED.
So I’m here to decode the lyrics and go Easter egg hunting with you for clues about their private relationship.
Let’s start with the fact that the lyrics hint that they spent the holidays together AND that they’ve already moved in together.
At the start of verse one she says “We can leave the Christmas lights up 'til January. This is our place. We make the rules.”
Speaking of Christmas, in case you forgot, in the ME! music video Taylor stands next to a Christmas tree at one point.
All these mentions of Christmas has me wondering if something extra romantic happened between her and Joe around Christmas, possibly, moving in together?
I mean, she does start verse two with, “We could let our friends crash in the living room / this is our place, we make the call.”
So yeah, that’s not even a subtle hint, it seems like Taylor is telling us that she and Joe have taken that step in their relationship.
But what’s less obvious in the song is the question on all of our minds, does she reveal if she and Joe are engaged or married?
Twitter has literally been freaking out over this since she posted the lyrics, “My heart’s been borrowed and yours has been blue. All’s well that ends well, to end up with you” on her Instagram.
Which is obviously a wedding reference.
And last night one person Tweeted quote, “Two questions I have listening to #Lover:
1) Is @taylorswift13 engaged?
2) Who doesn’t leave their Christmas lights up until January? #LoverAtMidnight”
The biggest clue I saw was in the Lover lyric video, which included videos of Taylor and might be a look at her private life with Joe but seems intentionally difficult to see.
Except the part where we clearly see her painting the British flag.
Which come on, that HAS to be a clue.
Someone tweeted about it saying quote, “The heart shaped Union Jack...Tay knows we know.
