Taylor Swift is a victim of sexual assault and now she’s helping those in a similar situation.
Women empowering other women -- love it!
April is Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month and, as someone who was groped by a radio DJ back in 2013, Taylor Swift knows what it’s like to say #MeToo. David Mueller was found guilty of groping the 28-year-old singer during a meet and greet several years ago and, upon winning the case, Tay promised that she’d make monetary contributions to different organizations that help women who are also victims.
The “Delicate” singer said in a statement at the end of the trial QUOTE “I acknowledge the privilege that I benefit from in life, in society and in my ability to shoulder the enormous cost of defending myself in a trial like this. My hope is to help those whose voices should also be heard. Therefore, I will be making donations in the near future to multiple organizations that help sexual assault victims defend themselves.”
T.Swift followed through on that promise and made a generous donation to RAINN, which is the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network, in honor of Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month.
The foundation tweeted earlier today QUOTE “Thank you @TaylorSwift13 for always standing with survivors. Your generous donation this week during #SAAPM ensures that survivors and their loved ones get the help they need and deserve.”
This isn’t the first time Taylor gave money to help victims of sexual violence, however. Just a few days after she won the groping trial she donated to friend Mariska Hargitay‘s Joyful Heart Foundation, a national organization with the mission to transform society’s response to sexual assault, domestic violence and child abuse.
Then, to kick off the new year, Tay made a $100,000 donation to the TIME’S UP Legal Defense Fund, which is being used to QUOTE “provide subsidized legal support to women and men who have experienced sexual harassment, assault, or abuse in the workplace and while in pursuit of their careers. The Fund will ultimately be housed at and administrated by the National Women’s Law Center, an established, national women’s rights legal organization.”
How incredible is that? I’m sure Taylor’s monetary support is helping RAINN immensely, which in turn will help thousands of victims of sexual violence. What do you think of Tay’s donation?
