Taylor Swift Makes Surprise Appearance at BBMAs After 2 Years & Gives Female Empowering Speech
And of course she sat in between her 2 besties, Shawn Mendes & Camila Cabello. What a squad…
You guys, T Swift surprised us all by showing up the 2018 Billboard Music Awards tonight. The last time Taylor was at the show was back in 2015, and this is actually the first time Taylor showed up to an award show this year at all. It’s a god thing she decided to show up to this one since she’s nominated for five awards tonight: Top Artist, Top Female Artist, Top Billboard 200 Artist, Top Billboard 200 album, and Top Selling Album. We first saw Taylor on the red carpet wearing a pink ethereal gown with a high leg slit and embellished silver details. Then we saw Taylor throughout the show jamming out to performances with her friends Shawn Mendes & Camila Cabello by her side. And cheer Shawn on as he performed.
The best part of the night though came right after when Taylor took home the Billboard Music Award for Best Female Artist of the Year! I have to say I’m not surprised Taylor won, and of course her speech was very heartfelt and empowering. She first started out her speech telling everyone it’s been a while since she’s been to an award show and then went on to give a very female empowering speech:
Taylor also gave a shout out to all the new future female artists who we haven’t met yet. I don’t know about you guys, but I was so excited to see Taylor at the show and low-key was hoping she’d make a surprise performance but a girl can dream you know?
Later in the show, Taylor ALSO won Top Selling Album for Reputation. As Taylor stepped up to the stage to collect her award, Billboard shared a tribute montage to celebrate the honor, which called out the AMAZING success of the album. Reputation sold over 1.2 million copies in its first week and landed at number one on the Billboard 200 album charts. In her thank you speech, Taylor recalled feeling misunderstood while writing the album, and thanked her fans for their support and for making her feel understood again.
