Kevin Spacey and Viola Davis tacked a few SAG Awards onto their belts tonight, both winning the award for best actor and actress in a drama series and we’re bringing you all the details.
Welcome back to Clevver’s 2016 Award show coverage where we’re bringing you ALL the drama… ok, well really only the actors who won in the drama category, but same diff.
Kevin Spacey took home yet another SAG Award tonight for his role in the popular Netflix series House of Cards, after taking home the same award last year, and being nominated the year before, so it’s safe to say the dude is seriously HEATIN’ UP.
During his acceptance speech, Kevin kicked off with a good laugh by thanking the big dog on campus, AKA the creator…
He paid tribute to the show’s creator Beau Willimon, who left the show before the 5th season, when Kevin promised on behalf of the cast, to do his best to carry on the legacy. He also thanked his costars, Netflix and gave a special shout-out to his manager for always fighting for him, but left the audience with a little spiel about the theory of relativity because WHY NOT?!
I’m not one to question science, but that seems pretty accurate to me! And Viola Davis, who is also not a stranger to scooping up those SAGs also took home her 2nd SAG Award for her role in How To Get Away With Murder following the same win last year. In her acceptance speech, Viola talked about her approach to taking on an anti-hero role, saying QUOTE, "I always think, ‘Why do I have to be a hero? Why do you have to like me? And why do I have to be a mentor?’ My job as an actor is just to create a human being … flawed, messy, maybe not always likable, maybe not cute."
She expressed her love for the art of acting along with her fellow cast mates, and concluded her speech by saying it has been the joy pleasure of her life to be working on the show.
So here’s to many more successful seasons on both House of Cards and How To Get Away With Murder, but right now I want to know all your thoughts on Kevin and Viola’s winnings tonight so get the conversation going right down here in the comments section and after that, don’t forget to click right over here to check out the SAG Awards best and worst dressed of the evening.
