Viola Davis and Mahershala Ali win big at the SAG Awards taking home the awards for Best Female and Male Actor in a Supporting Role.
The performances this year have been flawless and two of those performances were in Moonlight and Fences.
Viola Davis took home the Actor for best female actor in a supporting Role for her tear jerking performance in Fences and took time to thank August Wilson who was the brilliant mind and playwright who brought Fences to life.
She thanked August for shining a light on the average man who may not achieve monumental success that gets encapsulated in history, but still has a story worth telling.
Another big winner tonight was Mahershala Ali who took home the Actor for Best Male Actor in a Supporting Role for his work in Moonlight. He gave a beautiful speech about accepting differences and acknowledged how detrimental it can be when we persecute one another for those differences. He expressed that he was so grateful to play a gentlemen who saw a young man folding into himself as the result of persecution from his community and lifted him up.
In the wake of the injustices that have taken place over the past few days, Mahershala said that we can choose to take differences as an opportunity to see what makes us all unique or we can go to war over those differences. He added that when you are able to see the beauty in other’s differences, you are able to grow as one and love one another. A beautiful speech indeed. I want to hear what you guys think about Viola and Mahershala’s messages so let me know in the comment section below and as always, don’t forget to subscribe.
