Being nominated for an Oscar is a pretty big deal, almost as big of a deal as winning one.
Winning an Oscar means you get to go on stage and thank everyone who made that moment possible…getting nominated for one basically means the same thing.
You know that feeling of excitement you get when everything is going your way? Well, that’s basically what these celebs are feeling, but like times a hundred after their Oscar noms. The 2017 Academy Award nominations were announced at the crack of dawn on Tuesday morning and if you didn’t think anyone could be ecstatic hearing their name being called, think again.
Both Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling of La La Land were nominated for their incredible performances in the movie.
Emma, who got a nomination in the Best Actress category, reacted to the news by saying QUOTE, “What a morning. I am so grateful for this honor and I’m so happy to share this feeling with my La La Land family. The greatest part of life is connecting with people, and I love the deeply talented, kind, and passionate people I was lucky enough to work with on this movie. I’m also overjoyed that the movie has connected with audiences in the way it has, and that it’s hopefully bringing a kick in their step to those who watch it. This is beyond any of our wildest imaginings and we can’t wait to celebrate together.”
Ryan, on the other hand, kept it short and simple after he was announced as a nominee for Best Actor. He said QUOTE, “I’m very grateful to the Academy for recognizing my work in La La Land. It was a true collaboration, so to see everyone else’s wonderful work on the film acknowledged so generously makes it even more special.”
Viola Davis, who is up for Best Supporting Actress for her work in ‘Fences,’ could not have been more thankful for her nomination. She reacted to the news by saying, “Thank you to the Academy for recognizing this extraordinary, important film and my work in it. Thank you Denzel for being at the helm!” And speaking of Denzel, the actor is also up for Best Actor.
The overrated Meryl Streep, who broke her own record for the most Oscar nominations by being nominated yet again, decided to express her excitement with this amazing gif instead of a bunch of words.
Well said, Meryl. Well said.
Unlike Meryl’s simple reaction, Dev Patel had so many people to thank and so much to say when he found out the news. But the beginning of his message summed up how he felt about the honorable nomination. He said QUOTE, “So I just received a call to say that I’ve been nominated for an Academy Award…to be totally honest, the news hasn’t made its way into my brain yet, but I’m looking at these beautiful smiling faces around me…faces of the ones I love. And I feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude. What make this moment so much more poignant is that I’m in India right now.”
‘Manchester by the Sea’s’ Lucas Hedges received his very first Oscar nomination and when he spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about it, he reacted to the news by saying QUOTE, “It’s just simply not real. It’s not f—king real! It can’t be real. There’s just no way!”
Believe it, Lucas, because it’s pretty real to me and the rest of the world when your name was called!
While many celebs had lengthy thank you notes to the Academy and those they worked with, other’s expressed their gratefulness with a simple tweet.
After receiving a tweet on congratulations from her co-star Kevin Costner, Octavia Spencer thanked him and said QUOTE, “Would’ve loved to see your name called today!”
Lin-Manuel Miranda, who had a lot to say when he found out he was nominated for best original song for ‘How Far I’ll Go’ from Moana, summed up everything he was feeling with this tweet.
Who do you think had the best reaction to their Oscar nom? Meryl’s gif in response to the news was pretty good, but so were Lucas and Viola’s reactions.
