When Zayn quit 1D earlier this year, it came as a shock to everyone, but apparently it was something the singer wanted to do from the start of it all.
The former 1D member held nothing back when he opened up to The Fader magazine about his time in the band. Zayn was living the good life while being a part of the biggest boyband on the planet, but he wasn’t really happy. He wasn’t happy with the direction the band’s music was going in and even admitted that he wasn’t QUOTE ‘100 percent behind the music. It wasn’t me.’ Creative freedom and being unhappy ultimately led to his decision to leave his four best friends behind for a more ‘normal life.’ But, that wasn’t the first and only time he thought about leaving.
He told The Fader QUOTE, ‘I just wanted to go home from the beginning. I was always thinking it. I just didn’t know when I was going to do it. Then by the time I decided to go, it just felt right on that day. I woke up on that morning, if I’m being completely honest with you, and was like, ‘I need to go home. I just need to be me now, because I had enough.’ I was with my little cousin at the time – we were sat in the hotel room – and I was just, ‘Should I go home?’ And he was like, ‘If you want to go home, let’s go home.’ So we left.’ And the rest is history. Now that Zayn has more control over his music, he’ll be able to record whatever he wants and collaborate with whoever he wants!
Speaking of collaborating, Zayn also revealed in his interview that he had a chat with Liam not too long ago and mentioned that Liam wants to work on music outside of the band. Um, could we expect a Zayn and Payno collaboration soon?!
