13 Reasons Why has been officially renewed for a third season, and some people are NOT happy about it.
Well…you can’t please everyone!
Alright, you guys… if you’re anything like us, you probably watched the second season of 13 Reasons Why in just one day, and that’s totally fine! That being said, if you’ve successfully finished every single episode, you’re well aware of the fact that there were not one, but several cliffhangers at the end. Of course, this only made us wonder whether or not we could expect a second season.
Well, worry not, my friends! Just yesterday, Netflix CEO Reed Hastings confirmed that Season 3 will, in fact, happen, despite the fact that there are advocacy groups out there who’ve wanted to show to get shut down, well, since the very first season. According to Deadline Hollywood, one parenting group in particular even called out Netflix, saying that the streaming service has, QUOTE, “the blood of children on their hands,” due to how the show graphically displays suicide and sexual violence.
Still, Reed defended the decision to continue the show, saying in a statement that, QUOTE, “13 Reasons Why has been enormously popular and successful. It’s engaging content,” Hastings said during the company’s annual shareholder meeting. “It is controversial. But nobody has to watch it.” Well, he’s got a point!
Although some parenting groups definitely aren’t thrilled about the show coming back for a third season, the cast could not be more ready for its return. In fact, several of the cast members took to social media yesterday to share their excitement.
Dylan Minnette, who plays Clay on the show, hilariously tweeted, QUOTE, “my mom woke me up this morning screaming about this and scared the shit out of me but ya season 3 here we go!” Well… mom’s tend to do that!
Devin Druid, who plays Tyler on the hit series, is also looking forward to a third season, but he mostly wanted people to know that above all, he’s glad the show has inspired people to open up about the struggles they face in their everyday lives. He wrote, QUOTE, “Season 3 has been announced, and that's super exciting for all of us. But I really want to take this opportunity to celebrate and send all my love to those incredibly courageous and strong humans who have reached out to me personally.”
That wasn’t all, though, Tommy Dorfman, who plays the role of Ryan, sent out his congratulations to his fellow cast mates, saying, QUOTE, “Congrats to everyone on a 3rd season of @13ReasonsWhy,” while Ross Butler simply tweeted out the season 3 promotional video with a short, but to the point caption:
