Well showrunner Brian Yorkey said that season 2 wasn’t always going to come back with the same characters we all grew to love.
Yorkey told Entertainment Weekly QUOTE, “when we originally pitched it, there was another version, which was an anthology version where, in sort of True Detective mode, every year you start with a new 13 reasons.”
And some fans of the show were actually split on this very thing! One side said they wrapped up the storylines of season 1 so well that it could ONLY be one season long. While other fans couldn’t even fathom not finding out exactly where the beloved casts storylines could go.
But I don’t think anyone could imagine watching the show with an entirely different cast. I remember watching the UK version of Skins and not liking the season 2 cast nearly as much, so I know I’m thankful 13 Reasons Why didn’t take that route.
And now that we know Season 2 is coming back strong with our favourite cast, the rumors have started that Executive Producer Selena Gomez could make a cameo.
But Amy Hargreaves who plays Clay’s mother in the show seems to think otherwise! She recalls Selena turning down the role of Hannah and said QUOTE, "It would kinda distract from the main story. So I can't imagine that she would pop up for a cameo, but who knows? You never know."
And sometimes all you need is a “You never know” to still have hope she’ll make an appearance!
