If you’ve seen ANY of Selena Gomez’s executive-produced 13 Reasons Why Netflix series then we don’t have to tell you 13 reasons why the pop star just got matching ink with the cast. Many know that the series is a passion project for Selena and the show’s message hits home for her. 13 Reasons Why grapples with the aftermath of high school student Hannah Baker’s suicide and deals with issues such as rape, bullying, drug-use and violence.
In honor of the show’s success, Selena revealed on Instagram stories Sunday that she and co-stars Alisha Boe and Tommy Dorfman received matching tattoos on their forearms. So what did they all get?! A subtle black semicolon. The symbol has come to represent mental health awareness and suicide prevention. Project Semicolon began in 2013 using the punctuation mark to inspire the thought: “Your story isn’t over”. The tribute tattoo seems to have extra meaning for Selena who struggles with mental health issues related to her Lupus disease.
After leaving the tattoo parlor the trio went and posed in front of a billboard for their breakout series and Selena posted an Instagram of the moment. In a heartfelt caption Selena explained, “Wish the rest of the crew was with us today. Overwhelmed with the response and love @13reasonswhy is receiving. Thank you to each beautiful person who has watched and talked about the message of our show.”
