13 Reasons Why is donating its album proceeds to LGBTQ+ charities and it makes us love the show even more than we did before.
We’re buying this album ASAP.
It’s no secret that 13 Reasons Why has stirred up controversy ever since it premiered on Netflix last year. The acclaimed show heavily focuses on suicide and sexual assault and has caused some major backlash over the way it handles those serious situations.
While some people were against the show from the very beginning, others have found peace in what its doing and how its bringing these important topics to light. If you’re like us, you probably binge-watched the entire first season in less than a week and it has felt like we’ve been waiting for season 2 for YEARS.
Thankfully we now have seen two trailers, have a release date and even heard Selena Gomez’s song “Back to You”. Although we are so excited to be able to spend the weekend watching the continuation of the story, we’re currently freaking out over the exciting soundtrack news.
The soundtrack will be released on May 18th along with the show and has songs featuring Khalid, One Republic and of course, Selena Gomez, but that’s not why we’re so excited. It was just announced that the proceeds from sales of the album are going to two very important causes, The Trevor Project and Crisis Text Line.
Both of these organizations offer depression and suicide resources for LGBTQ+ teens, including confidential support services that can be reached by telephone and text. We love that the show is being so vocal about the importance of seeking help and is being proactive in offering ways to find it.
This isn’t the only way that the show is attempting to help its viewers, it was also announced that trigger warning videos will play before each episode and a post-show featuring analysis from mental health professionals will also be included.
We know that this super popular show focuses on tough, real life experiences and the fact that it’s trying to bring even more awareness and help those who are similar to its characters is extremely important.
Do you love that the show is donating the proceeds from the album and are you excited to watch the second season? Let us know in the comments below and then click here to see what season two secrets Dylan Minnette spilled. I’m Ava Gordy, thanks for tuning in.
