Leave it to Queen B to catch everyone off guard the day before shutting down the superbowl with a brand new song and video. She dropped “Formation” yesterday and the world is freakin’ the hell out. Rightfully so. Today's episode of Clevver News feed is brought to you by T-Mobile, the uncarrier.
This video is everything. We’ve got Beyonce, Blue Ivy, an important social message. It’s basically a recipe for slayage.
We were do for some new Beyonce material and she hit us with it right before the Superbowl. The Queen told her bee’s to get in formation and she’s doing it the only way she knows how. SLAYIN.
There are so many great moments in this video. B is paying homage to her roots and where she comes from by honoring the various cultures of her ancestry to highlighting many of the social issues that continue to plague the world today such as police brutality and the perpetuation of westernized ideas of beauty.
So first we see her sitting on top of a police car and she sets the record straight about her success saying QUOTE – “ya’ll haters corny with that illuminati mess.” Basically debunking any rumors out there claiming that she’s a member of the illuminati and that that is the reason why she has taken over the world. Um Byyye. Beyonce is successful because she’s talented and works her butt off.
Then we see my boo, Blue Ivy looking all kinds of adorable rocking her natural tresses and slayin’ like her mama! The boss shots continue with B standing on a porch with the fam behind her, giving us life with a head nod to the beat before the shot cuts to a dance break in an empty pool. Then cue the rollin’ up in the whip shot with B showing off those blonde braids. YESSS. There’s a reason why she says slay a billion times in this song because…evidence.
Then cue that dance break in the parking lot with this cool retro filter on the footage to make it look like it was shot on an OG video camera and watched on a VCR.
Then there’s all these awesome nods to Mardi Gras with the parades, the marching band members, the umbrella’s. Yessss New Orleans.
Then she pays homage to MLK in and her spirituality. The video is a very political stand for B to take and claps for her for doing so. There’s a scene when a little boy is shown dancing in front of police officers with a hood on, no doubt as a nod to Trayvon Martin and all the other young men who were wrongfully killed. We then see the police raise their hands as a sign of surrender as the camera pans to a display of words saying “stop shooting us.” Beyonce then sinks into the water on top of a police car before saying QUOTE – “Always stay gracious, best revenge is your paper.” I’m taking that one to heart.
